Logistics, hauliers and couriers

BACKGROUND

Wincanton is the largest British logistics firm, providing supply chain consultancy and solutions to some of the world’s most admired brands. They employ approximately 18,000 people across more than 200 sites and have a 3,400-strong fleet of vehicles.

CargoStop started working with Wincanton’s Construction Division over 2 years ago to help ensure that construction materials such as tarmac, tiles and bricks were safely secured so that no danger would be posed to any person working on or around the transportation vehicle orwhen the load was in transit on the road.

We now supply all of their transport fleet within the Construction Division with a full cargo control kit so that all their staff are compliant with health and safety regulations

THE CHALLENGE

The HSE Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 states that: ‘The weight, distribution, packing and adjustment of the load of such vehicle or trailer shall at all times be such, that no danger is caused or is likely to be caused to any person in or on the vehicle or trailer or on a road.’

Wincanton required a cargo control solution that would provide optimal levels of safety for their staff undertaking routine tasks around their vehicles. They also wanted a solution that met legal requirements and would ensure that loads would not shift in transit and then fall from vehicles, causing injuries and/or fatalities.

THE SOLUTION

Wincanton saw the benefits of CargoStop’s extensive range of edge protectors individually designed to help transport differing sizes and types of materials safely.

Wincanton purchase a number of different type of edge protectors including the ProStandard, ProWide, ProHeavy and Profibre that they use in conjunction with CargoStop’s ProPole - designed to move ratchet straps and placing edge protectors at a high level, while standing safely on the ground.
